Teen car crashes account for up to 44 percent of all teen deaths, making it the number one cause of teen deaths in the United States, according to the National Safety Council. Recognizing that the majority of car accidents are highly preventable, Midas has teamed up with the nationally noted automobile expert, Lauren Fix, The Car Coach, to host interactive Teen Car Clinics throughout California to educate teens and parents on how to maintain a safe vehicle and become a safer driver.

JSH&A staffers were on-site in California to help Midas share safe driving tips with media and teens. Teens were invited to take Midas’ “No Texting While Driving” pledge and also took in a hands-on demonstration by Lauren Fix and her daughter, Shelby Fix, The Teen Car Coach, which offered participants the chance to learn how to properly perform important tests and vehicle checks like tire pressure, engine oil and air filter checks.

For all the parents out there, what tips are you giving your teens as they near driving age? For all readers, any advice you wish you had received as a teen driver?

Lauren Fix and daughter, Shelby, talked with teens from the Boys & Girls Club of Kern County (Fresno). Safe car = safe driver.

We recently supported an event any chocolate lover would be thrilled about: opening the newest experience at Hershey’s Chocolate World attraction. It’s called Hershey’s Create Your Own Candy Bar and it’s just as sweet as the name. This interactive, hands-on attraction immerses guests in the candy bar creation process. The family-fun attraction marks the first time Hershey will give consumers the ability to select their favorite candy bar ingredients, see authentic equipment in operation and design packaging for their custom chocolate candy bar.

Wearing authentic outfits, including factory aprons and hairnets, guests become the newest member of the Hershey innovation team. Using similar equipment as Hershey factories, guests create their custom candy bar by pulling a lever to activate the machinery and dispense ingredients. Guests can select up to three inclusions in each bar, choosing from ingredients such as graham crackers crumbs, crisped rice, blueberry fruit gels, chocolate cookie bits, vanilla chips and rainbow jimmies. After the bar cools, it is sealed, packaged and personalized with custom packaging that guests design at an interactive kiosk.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups has joined forces with Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment to mark the debut of Iron Man 2 by offering fans the once-in-a-lifetime chance to win a walk-on role in a future Marvel film. Now available at retail, the “Part Chocolate. Part Peanut Butter. All Hero.” promotion celebrates the May 7, 2010, blockbuster premiere of this summer’s hottest sequel. To showcase the promotion, the Reese’s brand is taking a page from Iron Man’s roots – a boy genius who attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) – by hosting an online marketing challenge with select MIT students to drive awareness for the promotion. Enjoy one of the competing team’s YouTube videos of a speed painter.
