2017 Is Off to the Races

We’re two months in to 2017, but we’re already seeing creativity at its best with a few PR and social executions that we love. Here’s what’s topping our list so far:shutterstock_273278093

  • Domino’s Wedding Registry – Yes, Domino’s – as in the pizza chain, has a wedding registry. Rolled out just in time for Valentine’s Day, couples can visit dominosweddingregistry.com to choose from a variety of pizza gifts that can be enjoyed before, during and after their nuptials. It’s a classic PR stunt supported with an integrated marketing campaign including advertising, media relations and social media. No word on how many people have actually registered on the site, but with all the buzz that the brand’s receiving, does it really matter?
  • Verizon’s Response to T-Mobile Super Bowl Commercial – During Super Bowl LI, T-Mobile took direct aim at competitor Verizon with a commercial spoof on the popular novel and movie Fifty Shades for Grey. But, Verizon may have come out the winner with its clever response on Twitter: “Unfortunately no one will hear your safe word if you’re on @Tmobile.” Avoiding the $5 million Super Bowl commercial price tag, but still ending up in the post-game coverage – priceless.
  • Heinz Smunday Petition – While there were a few hiccups within the execution, Heinz’s #Smunday campaign succeeded in driving Big Game chatter without the hefty price tag that accompanies a Super Bowl commercial. Heinz asked Americans to join the brand and stop settling for the Monday after the Super Bowl as being the worst work day of the year. The call to action was to sign a petition to make Super Bowl Monday a national holiday closing offices everywhere. This campaign garnered a lot of media attention and I think we all wish it could come to fruition.

Looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year brings.
