To cook or not to cook…

November 12th, 2008 | by: JSH&A

Alright, I must admit, I am a self-proclaimed foodie. I may not be the person that goes to the high-priced restaurants and orders an amuse bouche, followed by an appetizer, followed by a salad, soup, dinner, dessert…you get the idea. I don’t have the time, let alone desire to spend the money on that type of meal. But, I am a foodie. I love Food Network - I call the personalities by first name. I live for Top Chef (new season coming soon - stay tuned!). I read food magazines. And I read cookbooks….really I do.

Here’s where I get to my point. I crave owning cookbooks – and I buy them. Then, I read the cookbooks (Martha Stewart’s Cookies is fabulous and beautiful, and I currently have my eye on the new Bon Appetit cookbook from editor-in-chief Barbara Fairchild). I read the recipes like they are chapters. I think about the ingredients – what they taste like, if I have them and if not, where to get them. And then, I ponder making the said “chapters” aka recipes. And do I? Typically….no. Oh, I wish I did. I wish I had the crazy drive to spend a full day creating delicous meals that look like they do in the high-gloss photos. I have done it – I’ve made an amazing dark chocolate tort with raspberry coulis and mint. I make a fantastic mushroom parmesan risotto which is complimented with a tangy lemon butter halibut. But, these are few and far between. So, I’m challenging myself to go above and beyond and make something that is foodie worthy.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Trick-or-Treat

October 9th, 2008 | by: JSH&A

With Halloween just three weeks away, it’s only natural that I would want to blog about the best candy and treats for the occasion.  Enter my internal struggle – how does someone that represents The Hershey Company fairly cover Halloween candy?  It’s simple.  Since I have always loved Hershey’s, a trait that I inherited from both my parents, I will NOT feel guilty that all my top picks for trick-or-treat candy go the Hershey’s.  It’s not my fault that my favorites are and always have been Hershey’s.

Here’s what you should have on hand when the door bell rings on October 31:

  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Kit Kat Wafer Bar 75-Piece Assortment – It’s as though the kind people at Hershey’s made this mix just for me. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Kit Kat Wafer Bars are my all-time favorites.
  • Take 5 Candy Bar in Snack Size - Have you tried this candy bar? The combination of chocolate, pretzels, caramel, peanuts and peanut butter is heaven.
  • Hershey’s Milk Chocolate and Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Crème Tombstone Molded Bars – Classic favorites in a spooky Halloween molding. How can you resist?
  • Twizzlers Snack Size - Hands down my favorite licorice and a sweet option when taking a chocolate break.
  • Demon Treats Assorted Bag, including Milk Duds Candy, Reese’s Pieces Candy, Whoppers Malted Milk Balls, Kit Kat Wafer Bars and Hershey’s Milk Chocolate – This assortment is perfect because there is something for everyone and Reese’s Pieces are unbelievably delicious.

I clearly love chocolate!  Going beyond these wonderful store bought treats, there are many sites that offer adorable crafts and recipes that families can enjoy around Halloween.  From Yummy Mummy Cookies to tips on how to throw a Bewitching Halloween Party, here are some great sites for inspiration:

Enjoy and Happy Halloween!
