Fall. While some of us continue to relish the sun, others are focused on going back to school, back to work and back to the mall to check out the latest fashion must-haves. Together with People magazine’s Style Watch, “The Early Show” recently featured this season’s must-haves. Not only did the segment get me excited, but it created an added urgency to re-evaluate my wardrobe.
Before you dive into the below list of stylish trends, I want to remind you that trends come and go as quickly as they hit store racks. Instead of feeling the need to be uber-trendy, I recommend discovering and defining your own personal style and then infuse a couple of the latest trends into your wardrobe.
Top Women’s Fall Must-Haves
Plaid and art prints – So bold and utterly striking. Jewelry can be distracting with busy prints, but consider pairing with a great shoe.
Autumn colors- These colors have maximum impact when worn monochromatically. Think deep crimsons, electric oranges and gorgeous grapes.
Pointy shoes and cut-out booties – Enough said. I just don’t understand the appeal of shoe booties (at least not on me!)
Winter Florals- An autumnal color palate, not bright summer colors. Treat florals as you might a strong plaid, not a pastel – accessories should be stark and graphic. Consider flower-inspired necklaces, earrings, shoes and handbags against solid pieces.
Feminine – Nothing says feminine like floaty pieces of chiffon and lace.
Top Men’s Fall Fashions
“The Worker” - Reports show that suspenders, work boots and plaid, wool coats recall a feeling of the Pacific Northwest this fall. I just think … early 1990s!
Skinny Ties – Sleek and sophisticated. The Jonas Brothers are big fans of this trend!
Vests – Forget the tuxedo and pair a vest with a dress shirt and jeans. Argyle, pinstripe and plaid are classic choices this season.
*Men, watch out! As I was livin’ and learnin’ about fall fashion, I learned that Mark-Kate and Ashley Olsen are after you. According to Women’s Wear Daily, the duo is launching a high-end collection called The Row next Fall. Who knew?
Coming up: Livin’ and learnin’ about the Most Beautiful Place on Earth.
