Happy (belated) Mother’s Day

May 11th, 2009 | by: JSH&A

This blog post is dedicated to putting the “Mom” back into Mother’s Day.  I’ve seen numerous articles relating to what a mom really wants for Mother’s Day. The gift ideas range from a new mattress to chocolates to a day/night out. Something clicked with me…what does any of this have to do with being a mom? After all, it is “Mother’s” Day, right?

As a single mom, having a day or night out kid-free is a luxury that seldom occurs. But why, of all days, would I want to ditch my girls to go out by myself. Isn’t the whole point of mother’s day to celebrate the privilege of being a mom and to honor your mother?

So, I’m re-claiming this day and creating my own “Top 5 Mother’s Day Gift List”

  1. Somebody to make *me* breakfast
  2. A day without the kids whining or fighting with one another
  3. Sleep in past 8:00 a.m.
  4. Do activities with the girls all day like going to the park, a movie, play games, whatever – just doing it together
  5. Get the kids to bed on-time

What would your ideal Mother’s Day gift be? You know, other than that box of chocolates and a day to ditch the kiddies?
